SEBI to fund Satyam shareholders' legal battle

Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for the first time, will provide the legal aid to thousands of investors who have been affected or are likely to be affected by the frauds committed by promoters and intermediaries in connection with securities, reports Deccan Chronicle.
With regard to this, the SEBI has accepted the application from Midas Touch Investor's Association (MTIA) to fund its case for compensation for Satyam Shareholders, which it filed with the Supreme Court. MTIA has challenged the dismissal of its appeal on behalf of Satyam shareholders for compensation by the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission.

The new regulations of the Sebi's Investor Protection and Education Fund Regulation 2009, states that the SEBI will provide an aid up to the extent of 75 per cent of the total expenditure on the legal proceedings and this aid will not be considered for more than one legal proceeding in one particular matter.

The cases could include deceitful and unfair trade practices, manipulation of the market, default in redemption of securities or in payment of interest in terms of the offer document; mis-statements, misrepresentation or omission in connection with the issue and sale or purchase of securities and other such market misconduct, which may be considered appropriate by the board. However, it does not include any proceeding where the board is a member, or has initiated any enforcement action.

"We are not calling it class action suit, but we want to help investors where there is a common cause, an advisory committee has been formed and its first meeting will be held on July 2nd by which time the guidelines will be ready," said MS Sahoo, a full time SEBI member.

JAB THEY MET

Disclaimer- All characters in this story are fictious and any resemblance with any real life incident is merely coincidental.

One Sunny morning, in the month of July 2005, He was sleeping in his hostel. His friends came and asked him to wake up. They were shouting “Are you mad, don’t you know today is D-day?” He could not understand, and then He was told that today is the day of Counseling. His friends were happy, but He could not find any reason to be happy. It was an ordinary day like any other day of his life. Except his and few others everyone in the bus were humming romantic songs.

It was a festive moment. Love was in the air but not for him. Known for his bulliness, He was contemplating tricks to rag the fresher. After all today he was going to become senior. When He reached campus he saw 50 odd faces.

He caught few faces and started taking intro. Suddenly He encountered a face which caught him unawares. A strange but pleasant shock ran down his spine. It was a weird feeling. He realized, He was getting distracted. What’s happening…….? He closed his eyes to decipher it. Flash! It appeared again, this time with much more clarity. Confused, he immediately opened his eyes and looked at the same direction. But the face was gone! He felt restless. His heart was giving a mixed feeling-a feeling he went through for the first time in his life. He cornered himself from the rest of the crowd so that he can have a better glance at the face that was tearing him apart. After a fanatic search of about 5 minutes, he finally spotted the face near the preamble.

Yes, that was it!

SHE……..her blonde hairs were like cascades which was flirting with her forehead. Her dove eyes were like an ocean - blue and mysterious. While She was smiling away, a sweet dimple created a ripple over her hilly chicks. When She opened her mouth those rosy lips seemed to kiss each other in love….He was mesmerized. He could smell her divine fragrance in the air.

He was so engrossed that he forgot that they were merely 10 feet away and He was continuously staring at her. Suddenly She glanced at him from the corner of her eyes.

Shit! He was caught. He felt embarrassed and shy but couldn’t remove his eyes from her sight. He remembered all his macho deeds and gathered courage so as to start a conversation. He realized that fighting 10 people all alone was a much easier task to accomplish than to talk to her, but then he was a man. He started to take short steps towards her, each step seemed to be a mile and just then when they were barely 2 feet away, it happened!!!!

A lady crossed their path, apparently her Mom; she said something to her and took her away. He stood there waiting.

Never mind….this was just the beginning, he stretched his arms, took a deep breath and enjoyed the fragrance she had just left by. Life was never the same as it was. It changed …….albeit in a wonderful fashion. He thanked God and threw a kiss in the air…

This was how they met.

BING

Bangalore: Days after Microsoft launched the new search engine 'Bing' to compete with the industry leaders Google and Yahoo, Internet safety experts have warned that that there is a glitch in the engine that gives users easy access to pornographic material.
As it went live in the U.S. this weekend, a technology blogger Loic Le Meur on June 1 discovered that one of its "features" needed only a few clicks for anyone, of any age, to view explicit pornographic videos without even leaving the search engine. Meur found that the number of pornography located transformed the search engine into its very own pornographic website. Loic writes in his blog, "You are now on a porn site without leaving Bing."To unseat Google from top, Microsoft had unveiled a slate of convenient features including an "autoplay" tool that may enable users to preview porn videos without logging into the respective websites. After this incidence, online safety advocates argued search engines to do much more to cut off underage access to pornography. As number of children using internet has grown by double in last one year across the world.Content-filtering companies have been reviewing Bing, and have found the same problems. Forrest Collier, CEO, InternetSafety.com said, "Bing.com at this point allows users to watch pornographic videos without ever leaving the site." Parental filtering software, such as SafeEyes, which is produced by Collier's company, can block any explicit or unwanted search results, he added.Microsoft released a statement saying that it was up to users to turn off the filters, instructions have been provided to toggle the settings. "By default, Bing filters out explicit image and video results. Consumers must take action to turn off the Safe Search filter in their settings in order for explicit image or video content to appear in Bing's results," the statement read. Other major search engines like Yahoo and Google come up with similar video and image results when electronic filters are turned off, but they don't provide automatic playing of videos within the search-results page.
